Day Four: The Luminaries

Genesis 1:14–19 “And God said, ‘Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky… to serve as signs for seasons, days, and years…’ And God saw that it was good.” The fourth day of Creation is the moment when light, rhythm, and the order of time appear in the created world. Today, this ancient image can serve as a reminder to people living in a world of constant change and uncertainty: even in apparent chaos, there is order and meaning. At the center of the composition are hands in a gesture of blessing. This is not a literal illustration of the biblical text, but a visual representation of divine action: the Creator does not merely create the world—He affirms it, blesses it, and fills it with meaning. Golden orbits move around the hands—a symbol of celestial bodies, cycles of time, and the human journey. The circle becomes a symbol of time and eternity. We move along our own orbits, experiencing light and darkness, beginning and end, anticipation and fulfillment.
